Stumble Upon Networking & Friends – 02

Networking and Finding Friends

On StumbleUpon, your friends and your network can be a big asset. For example, if you want to get more stumbles to a page of yours, with no network that can be quite tough. But if you have 50 to 100 friends on StumbleUpon, all you need to do is ask them to post a review of the page.

If they do, chances are StumbleUpon will start sending traffic to your site immediately. That’s the power of having a strong network.

How do you meet new people on StumbleUpon? How do you find your existing friends on StumbleUpon?

Before you start, make sure you have your profile and your avatar setup. This shows people that you’re serious about StumbleUpon and that you at least put in the time to setup a profile.

Once you’ve done that, then follow these steps to find new friends, old friends and network.

Note: On StumbleUpon, the term “friends” and “followers” are used interchangeably.

Step 1: Click “Discover”

To start finding new people, click on “Discover.”

Step 2: Select an Interest

Since you’ll probably want to be networking with people in the same industry as you, click “Interests” and choose the category that fits best for your website.

Step 3: Click “Review”

Click “Reviews” under a topic that’s related to what you’re posting about. This will show you a list of all the people who liked the topic enough to leave a comment.

Step 4: Choose a Person

Browse through the comments and find someone who you feel like shares similar values as you. Click their name.

Step 5: Click Follow

Click “Follow” in their profile.

Once you follow someone, you’ll show up in their “followers” list. It’s then up to them if they want to follow you back. If you stumble good content regularly, there’s a good chance they’ll take a look at your content and decide they want to follow you as well.

Step 6: Rinse and Repeat

Any time you see content you like, make an effort to follow them. There are many places in StumbleUpon where you can access someone’s profile. For example, if you see some content you like, you can just click on their name in the navigation bar.

If you find someone who you really want to connect with, you can also drop them a direct message introducing yourself.

Step 7: Finding Friends From Your Personal Network

Instead of meeting new people, you can also look through your personal network for friends.
To do this, click on “Find My Friends” on your home screen.

Then choose the service you want to find your friends from.

Check the checkbox next to the friends you want to add, then click “Follow.”

This system makes it easy to find all your existing friends en mass.

That’s the basics of how to network on StumbleUpon. Of course, like networking anywhere else, you’ll have hits and misses. Not everyone will follow you back. But if you make enough contact, people will start following you and soon enough you’ll have a solid follower base.
